Nestled in the foothills of the western Maine mountains, sandy river camping is situated on 40 private acres along the beautiful sandy river. When my wife and I decided to open sandy river camping, it was with the sole purpose of creating a unique and special place. One that offers an opportunity for people to experience camping in a nontraditional way. Our campsites are strategically placed throughout the property. So, you will always have privacy, tranquility, and your own little piece of paradise.

For those who are interested we offer a variety of farm experiences with the alpacas giving you an opportunity to learn more about these amazing animals. Some of the farm experiences include halter training, heard health, basic daily chores, skirting fleece, Or a guided hike on the property with an alpaca. When in season we offer U-pick blueberries to our guests. We also have fresh vegetables grown in multiple raised beds for purchase.

There is a community gathering room where you can go and meet new people, read a book, play games, take in movie night, or just relax. We have a private beach where you can swim, fish, or just watch the wildlife. Some other activities include multiple hiking trails on the property, a horseshoe pit, basketball hoop, ping pong table, and corn hole. We offer a variety of campsites from single to group sites some with power, some with platforms and one cottage rental. Two of our sites are overlooking the river these two sites have platforms and eventually will be glamping sites we offer a bath house with two bathrooms and two showers. Next year we are planning to add another bathhouse four more campsites and a second cottage rental. So for a unique experience come stay with the alpacas!
